Dear Parents/Carers
2026 Year 9 MYP Community Project
During this academic year, your child is completing their final year of our Middle Years Programme (MYP). A key element of the curriculum involves actively engaging in service learning or community engagement. In Year 9, students complete their service learning through the MYP Community Project. This is a very exciting opportunity for students to utilise and implement the skills learnt from their time completing the MYP and to increase their global awareness as well as becoming independent learners. Students will be given the opportunity to choose a community which is of personal interest in order to identify and serve a need within their chosen community.
Your child will receive tailored Community Project sessions which will be delivered by their Healthy Minds teacher. To be successful in the project, students need to utilise time in school as well as at home. Students will be given an online work book where they will document their project journey from start to finish.
Students must ensure that they bring their fully charged devices into school when they have their Healthy Minds lessons. Failure to do so will result in them having to work on paper and write up their work into their online workbook for homework.
The Community Project is formally assessed in a similar way to the MYP subjects via four criteria which culminates in an overall MYP grade. The grading criteria will be explained to your child and shared with them through their Google Classroom for you to view. This Community Project grade will appear on their final Year 9 report. There will also be prizes available for students to win for their hard work and efforts.
I would like to thank you in advance for the support you will give to your child whilst they are progressing through their Community Project journey. Please do take the opportunity to have a look at their Community Project journal in a few weeks when they have started their investigation and planning.
I look forward to the up and coming modules and seeing the finished projects.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
Yours faithfully
Miss N Dunne
