Dear Parents and Carers,
We are writing to you as part of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our students. You may be aware of recent reports regarding a small number of meningococcal (meningitis) cases within the wider Kent community.
While there are currently no confirmed cases within our academies, we believe it is a timely opportunity to remind our community of the symptoms to look out for and the preventative measures we can all take.
The NHS provides comprehensive and detailed guidance regarding Meningitis which can be found here covering;
- Symptoms
- Causes
- Treatment
- Complications
- Vaccination
What We Are Doing
At Leigh Academies Trust, we are maintaining close contact with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and local health protection teams. Our first aid staff are briefed on early symptom recognition, and we continue to promote high standards of respiratory hygiene (Catch it, Bin it, Kill it) across all our academies.
If you suspect your child is ill with these symptoms, please keep them at home and contact your GP or NHS 111 immediately. All other pupils should attend in the normal way.
Further information can be found at Meningitis Now
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.
Yours faithfully
Mrs Brooks | Principal
