NOTIFICATION OF SCHOOL VISIT

Title of Visit: Tudor Rebellions: a KS5 workshop at the National Archives

Date of Visit: Tuesday, 17th December 2025

Students Involved: Year 12 and Year 13 A-Level Students

Destination: The National Archives, Kew

Travel Details: Meet at Paddock Wood train station at 9.00am. Travel will be by train and Underground to Kew Gardens via Charing Cross / Embankment. Travel to the National Archives on foot. Return to Paddock Wood train station by 5.30pm.

Purpose of visit: To deepen understanding of the Paper 1 component of the A-Level Course, The Tudors, 1485-1603.

Nature of activities: Students will attend a workshop at the National Archives entitled, ‘Tudor Rebellions’ – more information is available here. Exploring a range of documents, students will find out about the extent to which rebellions challenged the authority of the crown. The session will focus on: The Pilgrimage of Grace (1536), the Western Rebellion and Kett’s Rebellion (1549), Wyatt’s Rebellion (1554), and the Rebellion of the Northern Earls (1569). A unique opportunity for students to investigate a key topic of their A-Level course with reference to archival documents. While at the National Archives, there will be plenty of opportunities to explore other exhibits and research students’ own family histories.

Cost and payment: The cost is £19.93. This covers the train journey and workshop.

Required on the day: Packed lunch, water, a pen, pencil and notebook. The National Archives gift shop is also well worth a stop, so change / bank cards for this might be good!
