Year 11 Mathematics Mock Exams: Preparation and Support

Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 11 Mathematics Mock Exams: Preparation and Support

As part of our ongoing preparation for the GCSE examinations, Year 11 students will be sitting a second set of Mathematics mock exams on the following dates:

Monday 23rd February: Paper 1 (Non-Calculator)

● Thursday 26th February: Paper 2 (Calculator)

● Friday 27th February: Paper 3 (Calculator)

These mock exams are a crucial opportunity for students to experience formal exam conditions, build confidence, and—most importantly—identify their current strengths and areas for development well in advance of the summer exams now that the full syllabus has been taught.

Essential Equipment

It is essential that students are fully equipped for each paper to ensure they can access all questions. They must bring:

● Black pen(s)

● Pencil and ruler

● Scientific calculator (required for Paper 2 and Paper 3)

● Protractor and compass

Revision and Support

To ensure thorough preparation, we have put a comprehensive support structure in place:

  • Following the November mock examinations, SPARX Maths has identified specific gaps in knowledge and skills, one of the most effective ways to address these gaps is through the completion of Fluency Fix-Ups on SPARX Maths. We strongly encourage all students to complete their Fluency Fix-Ups on SPARX Maths for each of the three papers, for each set completed will be rewarded with a Golden ticket.
  • Half-Term Revision: Students will be set one full practice papers to complete, mark, and return to their Maths teacher immediately after the break. Mark schemes, worked solutions, and support videos will be available on their Google Classroom to facilitate self-assessment and understanding.
  • SPARX Revision: Students have dedicated revision tasks on SPARX under the ‘Revision and Assessment’ aspect. To encourage engagement, every hour of revision completed on SPARX will be rewarded with a Golden Ticket.
  • Consistent Homework: Weekly homework tasks will continue to be set via SPARX. Consistent and diligent completion of these tasks is vital for continually building knowledge and exam confidence.

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement as your child prepares thoroughly for these important exams. Your partnership is invaluable.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
